NBA Reveals Punishment For Patrick Beverley Over Viral Incidents
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley has been suspended for four games without pay for throwing a basketball at fans and for an “inappropriate interaction” with ESPN producer Malinda Adams following the Bucks’ season-ending loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of their first-round NBA playoff series.

The NBA announced the suspension Thursday, citing Beverley’s “unacceptable and unprofessional” behavior. The suspension will result in a loss of roughly $90,000 for Beverley, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

During the game, Beverley threw a ball into the stands, hitting a fan in the head. He then asked for the ball back and threw it again at the fan. After the game, he refused to answer a question from Adams in the locker room, telling her to get her microphone out of his face and eventually asking her to leave the interview circle.

Beverley apologized for his actions on his podcast, saying, “I will be better. I have to be better, and I will be better. That should have never happened. Regardless of what was said, that should have never happened. Simple as that.”

The NBA and Indianapolis police are investigating the incident. If Beverley signs a new contract, he will serve the suspension at the start of next season, having previously been suspended.

The 35-year-old Beverley averaged 8.2 points and 5.5 assists in the six-game series against Indiana. He has a history of disciplinary issues, including a one-game suspension in 2021 for shoving Chris Paul during a playoff game.

Beverley’s actions hurt the fan he threw the ball at and reflected poorly on the Bucks organization and the NBA as a whole. His apology is a step in the right direction, but he must take responsibility for his actions and work to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The suspension is a reminder that players must conduct themselves professionally, both on and off the court. Beverley’s behavior fell short of that standard, and he must face the consequences.

As the NBA continues to investigate the incident, it’s clear that player conduct will remain a top priority. The league has taken steps in recent years to address player behavior, and this suspension is a testament to that commitment.

In the end, Beverley’s suspension reminds us that actions have consequences and that players must be held accountable for their behavior. The NBA has taken a strong stance, and it’s up to Beverley to learn from his mistakes and move forward.
