Report: Tua Tagovailoa inching closer to massive contract extension for Dolphins
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Tua Tagovailoa is about to get one of the biggest things he has wanted.

He enters his fifth season in the National Football League as a quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in the fall.

Mike McDaniel, head coach of the Dolphins, saw his signal-caller produce a career year in 2023.

Tagovailoa led the league for passing yards (4,624) and tied for fifth in touchdown passes (29). He finished in the top five to 10 among quarterbacks in every major category, making his first career Pro Bowl. Tagovailoa has the fifth-year option of his rookie contract option picked up, but are he and the Dolphins inching closer to a massive contract extension? According to a report from ML Football, long-term contract negotiations have started between Tagovailoa and Miami. ESPN initially reported the news, and Tagovailoa is projected to have a four-year extension worth $220 million via Spotrac.

Tagovailoa has grown each year as a starting quarterback since 2021. He proved last season he could avoid head/neck injuries, playing in a career-high 17 games. Tagovailoa posted a passer rating of least 100 for a second straight year in 2023.

He looks to guide the team to a Super Bowl at some point, but it looks like Miami want to commit to him long term.
